Jean Guevarra You, DDS
Board Certified Pediatric Dentist
Meet Dr. Jean Guevarra You
Dr. Jean Guevarra You is a native of Northern New Jersey and graduated magna cum laude with Bachelor’s degrees in both Biology and Psychology from Ramapo College of New Jersey. She then completed her Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) at the University of Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, one of the top dental schools in the nation and among dental schools worldwide. She devoted much of her spare time as a pre-doctorate towards helping underserved women and children through her work with professional non-profit organizations.
Following her dental education, Dr. Jean continued her training in the specialty of Pediatric Dentistry at the prestigious Columbia University – New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. At Columbia University, Dr. Jean received extensive training in working with children of diverse backgrounds including those with complex medical conditions and special needs in the outpatient, emergency and operating room settings.
Dr. Jean is part of a small group of specialty trained pediatric practitioners who underwent the rigorous process of becoming Board Certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. These additional requirements include passing a complex written qualifying examination as well as an in-person oral clinical examination. Pediatric dentists who have become board-certified have demonstrated an advanced clinical and scientific mastery of pediatric dentistry.
When given the opportunity, she enjoys combining her love for travel and dentistry by volunteering for dental mission trips to help treat disadvantaged populations around the world. Dr. Jean has participated in outreaches in Buffalo, Tennessee, the Dominican Republic and the Philippines. Dr. Jean strives to make every dental experience positive, fun and educational for children and parents alike. She hopes to help children and families establish a dental home to attain smiles they can maintain for a lifetime.
She is certified in both Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (P.A.L.S.). Dr. Jean stays current in the field through active membership in the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Association and the North Carolina Dental Association. Prior to making her way to Apex, Dr. Jean treated children in private practice for several years in both Connecticut and then in Massachusetts. Needless to say, she is thrilled to be able to call the research triangle home! Outside of dentistry, Dr. Jean enjoys spending time with her husband, Dr. Geoffrey You, and their adorable Shishon, Mochi. They are super excited to be joining the community. She cannot wait to meet you and your family at their next visit!

Dr. Jean and her team love working with children and are dedicated to great dental experiences.
We, along with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry,
recommend you bring your child in by his or her first birthday.
During your first visit, you will be introduced to our Pediatric Dental Team, given an office tour and given an opportunity to discuss your child's unique smile and ways to keep it beautiful for years to come.
Depending on the age of your child, he or she will either be given a knee-to-knee examination (where your baby’s head will rest on our doctor’s knee while their body is on your lap) or a regular exam in the doctor’s chair.
We request that you complete our First Visit Forms prior to arriving for your appointment. This helps our office keep your and everyone else’ scheduled visit on time.
Oral hygiene instructions will also be given with suggestions to help your child care for their own teeth. In most cases, we will also clean their teeth on this visit, and provide an evaluation that will outline any existing dental problems and proposed treatment.

School aged children for routine visits can be scheduled throughout the day.
Sedation appointments are scheduled only in the morning.
Our afternoon appointments are for routine visits and older children requiring minor dental treatment.
We require a 48 hour cancellation notice.
We are in-network with almost all insurances.
Payment for professional services is due at the time dental treatment is provided. This includes deductibles
and co-insurance. We accept personal checks
and most major credit cards.
For patients that require dental treatment, we compile a treatment plan. Our treatment coordinator will review the recommended treatment and the estimation of your dental insurance reimbursement.
Every effort will be made to provide a treatment plan which fits your timetable and budget, and gives your child
the best possible care.
meet our team
We know that every family has a unique and sometimes demanding schedule.
In order to help you find a time for dental care that works with your family’s schedule, we offer several scheduling options.
Give us a call at 919-303-2873 and let us know what will work best for your family!
Our family-block appointments are great for large families because they let multiple kids be seen on the same day.
You only have to make one trip to our office and everyone can leave with a bright, clean smile.
You shouldn’t have to schedule an appointment for a checkup and another appointment for a cleaning—we do both in one appointment! We can also start some treatments the same day we give our recommendations. So, if your child comes in for a cleaning, and we find that he or she has a cavity, we will do our very best to give you the option of filling the cavity that same day. We want to make scheduling dental care easy!
Same-Day Emergency Appointments
Dental emergencies can be really scary for children. If your child is experiencing any pain, call us immediately at 919-303-2873. We can talk you through the situation and see your child the same day you call us if necessary.

What is a Pediatric Dentist?
A Pediatric Dentist, like Dr. Jean, is a specialist in treating the unique needs of children. A pediatric dentist has completed years of specialty training beyond dental school and limits their practice to treating infants and children through teenage years, including those with medical complexities or special needs. In our opinion, taking your child to see a pediatric dental specialist is as important as taking them to see a pediatrician.
What is a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist?
Not all pediatric dentists are board certified. When a Pediatric Dentist is Board Certified it means that the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry certifies that the dental care being provided is based on standards of excellence that lead to high quality oral health care for infants, children, adolescents and patients with special health care needs. A Board Certified pediatric dentist, like Dr. Jean, has successfully completed accredited training and a rigorous voluntary examination process designed to continually validate the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to deliver the highest quality of patient care.
Pediatric dentists like Dr. Jean are especially trained in child psychology, behavior modification, child pharmacology and the pediatric airway.
Focus on Prevention
Pediatric dentists focus on prevention and education, for both parent and child. Dr. Jean explains preventative care, hygiene and treatment in simple and easy-to-understand terms.
Our office is geared towards the comfort of your child. It is our goal to create a fun and safe atmosphere for them to enjoy!
Establishing Your Child’s Dental Home
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry encourages parents and other care providers to help every child establish a dental home by 12 months of age. Establishing a dental home provides some key components to dental care for your child including...

"My kids and I love Dr You! She has made them excited to go to the dentist again! She spends a lot of time talking with not only me but them also. What a breath of fresh air from our former dentist."
"I’m so glad my wife and I went with Children’s Dentistry or Apex for our son’s first dental appointment. We were a bit nervous how he’d handle it going in, but the experience could not have gone any better. As I expected after reading her (remarkably impressive) bio on the practice’s website, Dr. You was amazing. She was so kind, patient and down-to-earth, and that not only put my son at ease, but me as well. We’re thrilled to have found such a warm, welcoming practice, and we look forward to being patients for many years to come!"

"Dr. Jean is one of the best pediatric dentists I have had the pleasure of meeting. When my son came for a cleaning she treated him with so much compassion and really made me feel like she cared about him. She is comfortable and easy to talk to with great advice for first time mom like myself. To me it is not easy to find a doctor you trust, but with doctor Jean you know right away that she is down to earth and there to help. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a pediatric dentist!"
